#OnTalk With The Horny Sindhi

After 4 successful years in East India Comedy, Atul Khatri has quit EIC to pursue his solo career. With his first video after going solo becoming a viral hit, Atul is on a roll. On this week’s OnTalk, we have the ‘Horny Sindhi’ himself talking about his journey and his future plans.

1. You are a CEO of your computer business. What inspired you to take stand-up comedy as a full-fledged career?

Right from childhood, I was the funniest person in my group. During business, I felt I could do more than just having a regular job, so I started doing stand-up comedy as a hobby in 2012, and soon it became professional within no time. Coming to the business part, last year I quit as CEO and now I am a full-time comedian.

2.How does your family handle your comedy? Because more often than not, your jokes are based on your family or your ethnicity.

First of all, it’s all in good humor, and my wife is pretty clear about this – As long as you get money for this, everything is okay. After going solo, your first video on ‘Justin Beiber’s concert’ has gone viral within no time and you have gained a huge fan following amongst those who follow Indian Stand-Up comedy.

3.What was the role of social media in your journey?

Lot of us EXIST because of Social Media. We don’t put ads in newspapers and TV, but we sell our tickets on social media platforms. This is what rides us. We can connect with our fans, express our views, get instant feedback etc. It is a force to reckon with.

4.You are popularly known as ‘Horny Sindhi’. How did that name get attached to you?

Nobody really said that to me, but I was the one who came up with this name. Firstly, all Indians are horny and that’s the reason our population is 1.3 billion. Secondly, I am Sindhi. So, it’s basically a culmination of these two words.

5.You are known for your sarcasm and ‘In-your-face’ type of humour. Any plans of venturing into acting. You are just 49 and you have age on your side.

I have done some ad-films and commercials. I had also auditioned for 2-3 movies, but I couldn’t do it because of time constraints. I just go with the flow, it’s not that I have ruled out acting as a career.

6.Describe the following people in a word.

Justin BeiberOverrated
Sorabh PantLoud
Pahlaj NihalaniSanskari
Dr. Mahendra VatsaMy Guru!

7.Any weird fan moment?

I wouldn’t say weird. But, I had a touching and overwhelming moment when a group of patients suffering from a particular disease saw my life performance and told me they laughed for the first time in 6 months. That was very touching.

8.What’s Atul Khatri’s take on Sarahah?

It’s too irritating and nothing really constructive comes out of it.

9.Are you open to working in a web-series?

I had auditioned for 2-3 web series, and hopefully in the next few months you might see me in a web series. Now that I’m solo, I have a lot of work.

10.Any Indian web-series that you follow?

I follow a lot of Indian YT artists and channels. There’s so much content coming on Amazon Prime and Netflix. It’s a parallel universe that has opened up, and it’s a great thing to happen.

11.Any advice for the upcoming stand-up comedy?

Stand-up comedy is a serious business. Don’t do it just because you feel you look cool on stage or something like that. Step into it only if you are damn serious about it.

Atul Khatri’s answers to our questions were just like his stand-up acts. Funny and straight-forward. As we eagerly wait for his next video on his channel, we wish Atul a great solo career and all the best wishes for his future projects.
