However, 2019 awaits the release of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming original web series ‘MADE IN HEAVEN’ which mercilessly unveils the dark side of the big, fat Indian weddings – especially the ones that happen in the uber-rich households.
This brainchild of the highly applauded for ‘Gully Boy’director- Zoya Akhtar along with Reema Kagti starring Kalki Koechlin, Neena Gupta, Manjot Singh, Pulkit Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, Jim Sarbh, Arjun Mathur and Shobitha Dhulipala is due to be released on March 8. The series has several massive progressive directors collaborating- ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ director Alankrita Srivastava who has directed two episodes while Baar Baar Dekho director Nitya Mehra has helmed three episodes for the series besides Zoya Akhtar and Prashant Nair. The official trailer has been released lately and is earning major attention online making the expectations most definitely running high.
The plot focuses on two Delhi based wedding planners – Tara and Karan, who run a wedding planning company Made in Heaven that caters to the creation of the dream weddings for every couple. From delving into their own personal lives to the lives of the families they are hired by, the series focuses on the “ground realities” beneath all the glitter and merriment which is often quite “different”. The current series deals with the modern aspirations and the ever-changing value systems of modern Indians. The trailer presents clips that juxtapose the extravagance of Indian weddings with vulnerable characters and their crumbling relationships. The pace of the trailer quickens as uncomfortable truths and mysterious secrets are unraveled against the backdrop of a perfectly-planned lavish wedding. We learn that the dream-merchant Tara is suspecting her husband of infidelity and in the meanwhile, Karan has to hide his gay relationship from the society. It is a modern take that unfolds the bitter complexities like dowry transactions, forced marriages, same-sex relationship, virginity tests that often remain shadowed.
